Preacher – scholar – heretic. The depiction of Jan Hus in the printed works of the 15th to 18th centuries
- In spite of efforts to prevent the emergence of a Hus cult, depictions of the Master began to appear in various art forms, including book illustration, shortly after his execution in Konstanz. A number of types of depiction that play a large part in shaping our ideas of the appearance of Jan Hus to this day appeared over the course of the centuries. The aim of the exhibition is to present the most complete overview possible of the depiction of the Czech reformer in old printed works of the 15th to 18th centuries, giving the visitor the opportunity of gaining a better idea of how the iconography of Jan Hus developed in book illustration.
- The exhibition will be open from 2 November 2015 to 30 June 2016 in the entry area of the study at the Library of the Czech Academy of Sciences (Národní 3, Praha 1). Admission free (9 a.m.–7 p.m., Monday–Friday)
