Books during the reign of Rudolph II

  • This exhibition was held from 5 November 2012 to 31 March 2013 in the vestibule of the ASL reading room.
  • 8 panels
  • Using reproduced extracts from extant copies produced by printworks of the time, the exhibition provided an insight into life in the Czech lands during a period which occupies a remarkable place in the history of Czech book printing with the continuing boom, not only in terms of the number of books published, their thematic and literary diversity and developments in typographical treatment, but also the expansion of the book market and the building of libraries at various social levels. All of this was influenced by events in the outside world as well as by the cosmopolitan environment of the imperial residence.
